Now it’s all changed again. Avid is the old tech in the non-linear world and FCP and PPro are the upstarts. At least After Effects is still the industry standard. And we editors and animators can create HD video on systems we have in our homes as we work in our underwear ... um, bathrobes ...err, forget the visual. I studied English Literature and Creative Writing and graduated with a BA from the University of Hawaii in 1986. That pretty much convinced me to not be a writer, but when I got a job as a bookkeeper at a small independent film company with their own Avid, I was instantly hooked on editing as a creative outlet. So I read the manual and was assisting the freelance editor within a few months. Eventually I got his job. Eventually I became a freelancer editor on my own. I also taught myself to use After Effects, laying my own motion titles to tape one frame at a time. Ah, those were the days.
